Making a Will FAQs | Probate Law | Jobling & Knape Lancashire UK

FAQs on making a Will

Why should I make a Will?

Making a Will enables you to make sure that the people you wish to benefit do so. Did you know that if you do not make a Will then all your assets will be distributed in accordance with a complicated set of rules? This may result in some people benefiting that you did not wish to do so and other important people missing out.

How much does it cost?

Jobling & Knape charges start from £70.00 plus VAT. Where your Will includes more complicated provisions then our charges will be discussed with you as soon as we can tell you what's involved.

Should I be worried about Inheritance Tax?

You'd be surprised how many people should be worried. If you own a house, for example, then you may find that on your death, some of your money and assets have to be paid to the Government in Tax. Feel free to send us details without obligation.

What is an Executor?

This could be a relation, a friend or a professional. We usually recommend you appoint two. They are legally responsible to make sure your Will is put into effect after your death. Members of Jobling & Knape have many years of experience in acting as Executors and are happy to be appointed should you so require.

Can I change my Will?

Your Will can be changed at any time. This can either be done by the making of a fresh Will or by another document called a Codicil.

Where should I keep my Will?

We offer a service of Will storage, which is free to our Clients. Your Wills are available to you for inspection at any time. We will give you a photocopy to keep in an envelope, which says where the original is kept.
